A cellist by training, Victor Julien-Laferrière founded the Orchestre Consuelo in 2021 as a tribute to George Sand’s heroine, who was driven by a love of art. Their repertoire is firmly rooted in the Romantic period.

Driven by a desire to bring together a team of like-minded artists in a creative community, the Consuelo Orchestra takes pleasure in combining the essential symphonic repertoire with lesser-known works that have rarely been recorded. With a strong focus on the music of Liszt (whom Sand had met in 1834), this concert at the Philharmonie illustrates this dual theme by juxtaposing Les Préludes, Liszt’s most famous symphonic poem, with the Piano Concerto No. 1 (featuring Jean-Frédéric Neuburger), including Tasso, lamento et trionfo and, above all, the extremely rare cantata for two soloists, choir, and orchestra, Les Cloches de la cathédrale de Strasbourg. The instrumentalists are joined by the choristers of La Sportelle, an ensemble that has established itself as a distinctive voice in the field of sacred music.
