To seal their love and introduce Constance to Salzburg, Mozart made her a promise: the day he took her there, a mass would be performed in her honour. However, Constance's frail health postponed their wedding plans. Driven by hope and deep fervour, Mozart set about composing his Mass in C minor, which he dedicated to his beloved in the hope of her recovery. The solo soprano part, specially conceived for her, was performed by Constance at the premiere in 1783. Although she recovered, the work remained unfinished, adding a touch of mystery to its story.

The Mass in C minor marks a decisive turning point in the history of sacred music. Drawing inspiration from Bach and Handel, while incorporating the stylistic innovations of Viennese classicism, Mozart succeeded in fusing the majesty of the Baroque style with the clarity and balance of his time. He pushed sacred art to new heights by introducing elements borrowed from opera: the virtuoso and deeply expressive solo arias weave a moving link between the divine and the earthly. The work already heralds the heightened emotion and lyricism of the musical romanticism to come.

To round off this exceptional programme, Symphony No. 41 ‘Jupiter’, Mozart's last symphonic masterpiece, shines with its dazzling power.
